Spinel

nedMag 99 caustic magnesium oxide is predominantly for the manufacturing sintered and fused spinel. Spinel (MgAl2O4 or magnesium aluminate) is used in refractory products for cement (direct bonded Mag-spinel bricks) and in alumina-rich monolithics, which are used mostly in the steel industry. In the latter case the used spinel is alumina rich (MgO content < 33%).

The preference for using nedMag99 for spinelmanufacturing is based on the low calcium-oxide content of this magnesium oxide. Calcium oxide reacts with the alumina part in the spinel, which results in the undesired formation of calcium aluminates (see also "refractories application")
